When it comes to dressing stylishly less is sometimes more. For those who want to look slimmer and perhaps a bit taller (lets face it there must be quite a lot of us), simple basics in black are about as flattering as they come, but very boring. Here are some ideas that I have come up with for accessorising a black shift dress. There are plenty in the shops to choose from but I love this very classic style of shift dress from Debenhams.

Make a feature of you legs with these bright and colourful Celeste Stein pink oriental garden tights. Tights are a great way to brighten up a plain outfit.
Get a bit of the autumn winter trend for dogtooth with these dogtooth high heel shoes. A great way to add a bit of style to a classic black work outfit.

Add some glossy glamour with a multi strand faux pearl necklace. You could also opt for a brightly coloured chunky beaded necklace.
Long gloves are a great way of keeping your arms warm and adding a touch of style to a shift dress.
This orange beaded clutch bag is a great way to add a bit of warm colour to a black shift dress.Perhaps not to everyone's taste, but I quite like the idea of wearing all of these accessories at once!
