The Children's Birthday Party Circuit

Sunday, February 27, 2011

Whilst many fashion bloggers have been out and about at Fashion Week, attending shows and parties, I have been on a party circuit of a different kind. The last week seems to have been full of children's birthday parties . I am not complaining though. For someone who spends so many hours sat at home in front of a computer working, a children's birthday party is a great chance to get out of the house, get a bit dressed up and have a good natter with the other mums. The younger children's parties seem to cater as much for the mums as the children these days with wine and nibbles and cupcakes to keep us going while the children bounce themselves silly on the bouncy castle. All that changes once they start school though and the mums just drop and run when it comes to birthday party time, so I am making the most of it while it lasts.

There are a few sort of unwritten rules on what a mummy should wear to a childrens birthday party. It kind of goes without saying that you shouldn't wear a really short skirt or low cut top, but you also don't want too look like you have tried to hard. High heels are pretty much out if the question as they are not good for trying to step over little children in. You also need to be able to comfortably sit in the floor to prevent the pass the parcel turning into all out war. I tend to opt for brighter colours and patterns as I guess I just think this is more child friendly than all black or dark colours which might look a bit scary! I avoid too many bright and clashing colours in case I get mistaken for the children's entertainment.

So here are a few of my most recent Children's Birthday Party and half term outfits.
