Maleficent movie props and Princess Aurora's cottage bedroom set on display...

In Disney's live-action Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie in the titular role, the story of Sleeping Beauty is retold from the perspective of the iconic fairytale villain. Here is a selection of authentic screen-used props from the fantasy film, including 'Princess Aurora's' cottage bedroom set, on display at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on June 3, 2014.

This bedroom set is from the cottage where the baby Aurora is sent with the three pixies, 'Knotgrass', 'Thistlewit' and 'Flittle', in disguise to hide from Maleficent and her curse and here she grows into a teenager watched over by her 'Fairy Godmother', Maleficent.

Meanwhile that is the spinning wheel with the spindle on which she pricks her finger which sends the Princess into her death-like sleep before her sixteenth birthday.

In this origin story we learn that humans are the aggressors, like 'King Henry', who attacks The Moors, the land of the magical creatures and home of Maleficent.

King Henry is played by Kenneth Cranham and this is the Royal Sceptre he sports in the movie.

The fantastic exhibit at the El Capitan Theatre also included other Medieval-style weapons used by the King's army, plus simple toys played with by a young Princess Aurora.

One of my favourite props on display from the movie was this red sculpture of a castle from the Royal banquet, which is pretty cool to see up close, and makes you realize how much detail goes into creating this illusion of an imaginary world on the big screen.

The teenage Princess wears this coronation outfit, which you can see is influenced by nature, at the end of the movie when she is crowned ruler of both the human kingdom and the magical Moors lands, unifying the two realms in peace.

In Disney's Maleficent the real villains seem to be men and their greed and ambition in the live-action movie, not the iconic (misunderstood) female Sleeping Beauty villain. Here's the fantastic suit of armour worn by Sharlto Copley as 'King Stefan', the father of 'Princess Aurora', in the fantasy movie's fatal showdown with the winged fairy.

Anna B. Sheppard was Costume Designer on the fairytale origin story of Maleficent and responsible for designing the South African actor's majestic suit of armour, which was photographed on display at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on June 3, 2014.

As a boy the orphan Stefan befriends a young Maleficent when he ventures into The Moors and also discovers that iron can cause harm to fairies.

Over time his ambition changes him and he betrays his former friend to become King, he also has his ironsmiths make this impressive suit of battle armour to protect him from Maleficent and her revenge.
