In October 2011
American viewers were re-introduced to some of their favourite fairytale characters, but this time on the small screen in the new
ABC series
Once Upon a Time. Once again good did battle against evil, but this time there was a twist, evil had already won and cast a spell so that the heroes and their friends no longer remembered who they were or where they were from. These cursed characters lived in a small town in our world devoid of magic called
'Storybrooke', and over time we discovered their histories from the
'Enchanted Forest' and learned more about their false new lives.

U.S. screens at the end of September, this wonderful collection of costumes from the series were exhibited at
Disney's third
D23 Fan Expo at the
Anaheim Convention Center on August 9, 2013.

Red Riding Hood in Once Upon a Time
In the real world of
Storybrooke she's diner waitress named
'Ruby', but in the magical
Enchanted Forest, 'Red' (played by
Meghan Ory) wears this peasant girl outfit complete with red cloak as her
'Little Red Riding Hood' namesake. In this telling of the infamous fairytale,
Red is actually a werewolf (she's
The Big Bad Wolf) and the magical red cloak helps prevent her lycanthropic transformation.
Prince Charming wedding costume worn by Josh Dallas
in Once Upon a Time
Meanwhile I believe this regal looking silver grey outfit is worn by
Josh Dallas as
'Prince Charming' for his wedding to
Snow White. When we first meet him in the real world his alter-ego
'David Nolan' is in a coma and when he awakens with amnesia, but over time through flashback we learn his rich and complicated history with his true love,
'Snow'.

I'm sure a lot of visitors to the
Once Upon a Time costume exhibit loved seeing
Snow White's wedding dress on display, even though the beautiful white feathered gown was hard to photograph under the dim lighting used to protect the original garments.

In the world of
Storybrooke her alter-ego is a timid school teacher named
'Mary Margaret Blanchard', but in the
Enchanted Forest she's a much more feisty
'Snow White', and she's equally at home in fighting garb as well a beautiful fairytale gown.
Huntsman costume worn by Jamie Dornan in Once Upon a Time
Next on display is the
Enchanted Forest's 'Huntsman' costume worn by male model and actor
Jamie Dornan (whose counterpart is
Storybrooke's initial
Sheriff,
'Graham'). Just like in fairytale legend this forest hunter was tasked by the
'Evil Queen' to kill
'Snow White'.

Mad Hatter costume worn by Sebastian Stan in Once Upon a Time
Once Upon a Time also dabbled in the world of
Alice in Wonderland and introduced viewers to their own version of
'The Mad Hatter' (aka
'Jefferson'), played by
Sebastian Stan (
'Bucky' in
Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger movie and soon to return in the sequel as
'The Winter Soldier').

And finally keeping some of the best until last, another highlight of the costume exhibit was this rich and opulent costume worn by
Barbara Hershey as the
Evil Queen's exiled mother
'Cora' in her
Wonderland 'Queen of Hearts' persona.
