Brightly Coloured Inspiration For SS11

I can't wait until the summer. I always think it so much easier to wear bright colours on a sunny summer day. This year there is also plenty of catwalk inspiration to give me ideas on what to wear and how to wear it.

I couldn't really mention bright colours for SS11 without including Christopher Kane with his neon Princess Margaret on acid collection. I absolutely love it and although it is quite an extreme collection there was definitely lots there that I would wear, if I could afford it.

At Jonathan Saunders there were some great micro prints and also some great pattern mixing going on. A very eyecatching look which was not quite as full on as block colour but still very eyecatching and stylish.

At Dries Van Noten this coat really caught my eye amongst the much more washed out and muted tones of the rest of the collection. I love the graduation effect making it a little different and more subtle than block colour.

At Prada, the look was pure, simple and bright. I love the idea of wearing just one very bright colour. I am not sure if I would ever be brave enough to do so though! I also love the bold stripes as the black just increases the intensity.

At Prabal Gurang, I loved the combination of blue and my favourite yellow.

I loved the neon tribal prints at Proenza Schouler and the greens and oranges, will definitely be looking out for these on the high street.

 
At Marc Jacobs, there were some amazing colour combinations with lots of oranges plus a really sugary mix of pink and purple.

My attention was drawn to Issa by all of the media speculation about Kate Middleton's wedding dress and I am glad that it was. I love the simple and clean lines of this label. One of my favourite looks is this combination of blue and yellow. The collection also featured lots of other beautiful colour combinations.

The Greyer The Day The More Colourful The Outfit

I have a new rule: The greyer the day, the more colourful the outfit. I like to put together colour combinations that are not really obvious, for some reason that really cheers me up. Not that I need cheering up with Christmas almost here. I feel like have been waiting for ages.

Friday Finds - Fun Felt Brooches

Style Eyes Fashion Blog has now moved to Style Eyes Ethical Fashion Blog. I look forward to seeing you there.

I have been wanting a brooch for sometime now. Something brightly coloured and a bit fun that I can pin onto jackets, cardigans or tops when I feel they just need that something extra. Sometimes an outfit feels like it needs something but a necklace, scarf or belt just don't quite work. I have come across so many gorgeous felt brooches on my travels across the internet, I thought I would share. These brooches are a great way to decorate sustainable clothes as some of the felt is made from recycled wool. I just love them because they make me smile.

Bright Patterns V Neutrals

Ever since I got back from holiday have had an overwhelming urge to wear lots of bright patterns. My brief flirtation with neutrals and minimalism is over for now. The only way that I could seem to make neutral outfits not seem boring was by adding bright accessories.

I bought this dress for my daughter on holiday but thought I would just try it on as I love the colours so much. I am wishing that I had bought one for myself now. Perhaps she will let me borrow it occasionally.

I almost swapped/ sold this dress. What was I thinking of. I love the colours and the floral pattern so much.

I am now on the hunt for more bright patterns preferably vintage or second hand as this is the most sustainable option. I will share my findings very soon. Do you prefer bright patterns or neutrals?

Accessorise with match sticks

Last night, I was woken up at least 6 times by children (I lost count after that) consequently I was pretty tired this morning. I decided to wear something nice and bright to help wake myself up. This yellow t shirt almost fell into my hand when I opened the draw. The pink cardigan and multi coloured necklace don't seem like they are supposed to be combined with a yellow t shirt but I love the combination as it makes me think of tropical countries. As you might be able to see from the pictures I am trying to keep my eyes open, which is even more difficult with the camera flash, I am in desperate need of some match sticks to prop them up with.

T shirt - a charity shop (originally by Gap) I have bleached it to give it a slightly marbled effect and make it aslightly paler yellow which you might be able to see from the photo.

Consoling myself with Chichia London

After yesterdays post about ASOS Africa which got me quite excited, I was a bit disappointed to find that the very gorgeous blazers that were causing a considerable wobble on my shopping ban, were completely sold out (or at least not available on the site at the moment). I really loved the bold bright African inspired prints but in the absence have been driven on to exploring other possibilities. Perhaps a blessing in disguise as I came across another very desireable source of African inspired prints, at Chichia London.

The label which was founded by Christine Mhando has some really original pieces in the most amazing colourful prints. I love her idea of keeping things fresh without being too trend driven, this just about sums up what I want from my clothes (along with lots of busy colours and patterns). Christine was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and raised in London, so the collections take inspiration from both continents and she transforms them into very beautiful and wearable clothes.

Another Challenge - Going Green!

I couldn't resist partaking in the brightest brights challenge set by Tomorrow of In the Bedroom Mirror. She would like to make a rainbow of outfits and so has set the challenge to create outfits in just one bright colour (but can include as many shades of that colour as you like). Anyone can take part so feel to free to join in.

This proved to be even more of a challenge than Susie Bubble's colour block challenge. I am now wishing that I had just one amazing colour block dress perhaps in bright pink that I could wear with pink tights. But I don't, I have very few clothes in just one colour (I am more of a patterns sort of girl). In fact, I only own one thing that could be described as block colour for my bottom half (this skirt) and I don't have a single green top. But I wasn't going to let that stop me. Challenges are about thinking creatively right? So I raided Mr Style Eyes wardrobe only to find he has a similiar aversion to block colours as myself. They say you become more similar the longer you have been married, so after 10 years this explains why our wardrobes are full of similar shades of neutrals and patterns. I did manage to find this green polo shirt. With a pale green scarf being the only suitable green accessory, I finally got the chance to make the great big bow that I have been wanting for a while.
