Original 1982 Tron movie costumes on display...

Thursday, October 11, 2012

I may have been fortunate enough to see these classic Tron costumes from Disney's 1982 sci-fi cult favourite at the D23 Expo in Anaheim last year, but it was still a thrill to see them up close again under different lighting conditions at the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibition on July 17, 2012.

First up is Jeff Bridges costume we wears as 'Kevin Flynn', a User who gets digitized into a world of programs who look like humans.

If you like his outfit from the original movie, be sure to also check out Jeff Bridges costume from Tron: Legacy, the 2010 sequel.

Next, the mannequin holding the Identity Disc is the outfit worn by the Program 'Ram' played by Dan Shor.

And then there's the costume for our titular hero, 'Tron', played by Bruce Boxleitner.

These skin-tight outfits look so simplistic now, but at the time with the cutting-edge special effects in the early 80's they looked so futuristic and super sci-fi when I was a kid.

Standing beside Tron is the costume worn by the female Program and his love interest 'Yuri' played by Cindy Morgan in the film.

If you did want to replicate this look, you'd have to keep in mind that this Yuri costume is missing a belt.

In Steven Lisberger's original 1982 sci-fi movie Tron, Jeff Bridges hacker 'Kevin Flynn' is literally zapped into the world of a computer and forced to battle in gladiatorial games and team up with the heroic security program 'Tron' to stop the nefarious schemes of the Master Control Program.

First up is the costume worn by Dan Shor as the Program 'Ram', who escapes with Flynn and Tron in the movie. His costume appears to be missing a belt, but he's holding his frisbee-like Identity Disc, so you can't complain.

Cool costumes, models and props at Disney's D23 Expo..

Saturday, August 20, 2011

If you're a Disney fan then you'll love the D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center, but if you're a fan of original movie costumes, props and models, you may just love it a little bit more than the others attending.

Disney's D23 Expo
Disney D23 Expo 2011
The three day event which runs from August 19-21 is the second expo following the inaugural convention in 2009, but this time the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit is even bigger and better, double the size of the original expo.

In the lower convention halls you be greeted by this spectacular Black Pearl miniature pirate ship from the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean movies, then upstairs you can enjoy the 12,000-square-foot costume and prop exhibit.

Probably the highlight for me was this fantastic costumes worn in the original Tron movie, which was displayed incredibly, the lighting really helping to show of the iconic sci-fi outfits.

The Disney exhibit also had several wonderful costumes worn by Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland 2010 live-action movie, some of which I'd not had the pleasure to see up close before.

If you're a fan, be sure to check out more of Colleen Atwood's Oscar-winning costume designs from Alice in Wonderland here at Hollywood Movie Costumes and Props.

Original costumes from Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3

Of course it wouldn't be a Disney event without some costumes from their successful Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise, and the expo not only had costumes and props from the latest film, On Stranger Tides, but also a wonderful display from Dead Man's Chest and At World's End.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the animated classic, 101 Dalmatians, they also recreated Cruella de Vil's office from the 1996 live-action movie version, which stood alongside two of the spectacular costumes that Glenn Close wore as the iconic villain in the movie and its sequel.

Original costumes from LOST on display
LOST pilot episode TV costumes
TV fans weren't disappointed either, as they had really impressive display of costumes and props from the pilot episode of the phenomenally successful television series LOST, plus the Dharma Initiative van. In addition you could exclusively see actual costumes from the late 50's TV version of Zorro.

There was so much nostalgic movie memorabilia that it brought back many long forgotten and cherished memories, from films like The Rocketeer and even Hocus Pocus.

Be sure to stay tuned in the coming days for even more detailed photos of costumes, props, vehicles and models photographed on display at Disney's D23 Expo on August 19, 2011 including:

I thoroughly enjoyed the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives and thought it was filled with loads of great movie magic and beautifully presented.

Sci-fi and fantasy props at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas...

Friday, May 13, 2011

Welcome to this first installment of movie props, costumes and memorabilia photographed on display at the Planet Hollywood Cafe in Las Vegas on April 7, 2011. For today I've decided to collect together all the fantastic sci-fi and fantasy props found around the movie-themed restaurant.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze head

First up it seems only fitting to have a trio of props from Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, considering he was one of the original celebrity backers who founded Planet Hollywood alongside Bruce Willis, Demi Moore and Sylvester Stallone.

Here is his 'Mr. Freeze' head bust from 1997's critically mauled Batman & Robin. Apparently the prosthetic make up and costume for the frosty villain took six hours to apply each day.

Next is Arnold Schwarzenegger's sword from 1982's Conan the Barbarian, the film that kick-started his blockbuster career.

If you're a fan, be sure to also check out this Wheel of Pain miniature model from the original Conan the Barbarian movie.
