Style Eyes Weekly Fashion Round Up 3/2/11

Last week I wrote about the Emma Watson collection for People Tree collection but I forgot to mention the equally if not more exciting collaboration between People Tree  and Laura Ashley. Packed with beautiful floral prints from the Laura Ashley archive collection and brightened up with contemporary colours for the modern day, this has given me yet more to lust over. The collection will be sold online and instore.

Margie of Margie Hearts Clothes has recently set up an Etsy shop Margie Hearts Vintage through which to sell her reworked vintage jewellery. She makes the most amazing headpieces and hand chains, really unique and beautiful. I definitely recommend a visit!

The Shopping Forecast has just launched some amazing fashion competitions where you can win lots of clothes. You can make an outfit with items from the site or a royal wedding themed outfit. If your outfits get the higest average vote or the most votes, you get £200/$300 to spend on clothes on the site. You can also earn points by voting, commenting sharing items and outfits from the site. The top five points earners each season can exchange their points for clothes.

Finally I have decided to get up with times and invest in a little technology to perhaps make my life a little easier when travelling. Depsite many people saying that Blackberrys are better, I decided to get an I phone 4. I am a bit of a techno phobe and I though it just looked easier. I was just wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere to buy an amazing cover so that it doesn't get ruined in my handbag (I did see a Lulu Guiness one) and any good aps (I don't even know where to start).

Style Eyes Weekly Fashion Round Up

It has been a little while since I have posted a weekly round up but as there is so much going on at the moment I couldn't wait to post this weeks.

For those who live in or near London,  the first Vintage Fashion Fair of 2011, Primrose Hill will be held on Sunday. It only costs £3 to get in and is open from 11am -5pm. This would be my ideal Sunday afternoon browsing all of the beautiful vintage clothes and accessories which range from the affordable to the very desirable and designer vintage goodies. The Shopping Forecast (which you might have read about in previous posts) has just relaunched with some exciting new features. Not only can you now vote on your favourite items to help decide what will be in the shops for the season ahead but you can also make outfits, get inspiration, share your favourites, earn points (and you know what points make!) and enter some more exciting fashion competitions which will launch in February. You get your own profile page and badge (like the one featured above) which also helps you to earm more points.

I am on the Style Council of the Shopping Forecast. You can check out and vote on my choice of new fashion items for Spring 2011 and you can see (and vote on) my Spring outfits.

Last but not least I wanted tell you about a great little website that I have discovered called Heavens Attic. It sells a range of jewellery, gifts and accessories, all very pretty and very stylish. The store donates 12% of each online purchase to rescue and restore the life of somone trapped in the snares of sex trafficking. I don't know about you, but I love knowing that my overindulgences are in someway doing some good, this is such a great way to help a worthy cause. The prices are also very reasonable, all of this making me a very happy shopper! I particularly love the leather jewellery (pictured above) which feature bright and pastel coloured flowers- perfect for the spring.

Style Eyes Weekly Fashion Round Up

I am not really sure how I have managed to get through the last week. Not only have I had the cold from hell but everyone else in the house has been ill resulting in me having no more than a few hours sleep each night. I have found hot chocolate to be the best way to make myself feel better. Anyway enough of my moaning, at least hopefully we will have all the colds out of the way for Christmas.

I have been vaguely considering a 12 days of Christmas feature where I post a festive outfit for each day starting on Christmas day (although I am not actually planning on logging on on Christmas day, so may prepare my posts in advance). What does everyone think and does anyone fancy joining me?

I have now recieved the name of the fashion blogger who I will be making a Christmas gift for as part of the British Style Bloggers secret snowflake. I can't reveal either who I am giving to or what I will be making them as it is all top secret. How exciting! I am wishing I had gone to this much effort with all my Christmas presents this year instead of just buying them. I may feature a tutorial of what I have made in the new year though.

Other exciting events this week have including the beginning of the Spring season on The Shopping Forecast. As a style councillor, I have to submit the fashions and styles that I like for Spring 2011 to be voted on by the public. This week on the Fashion Buzz, I have been showing off my picks of  animal print dresses, coats and accessories and Vivienne Westwood Shoes - recyclable and vegan. You can also check out all my favourite duffle coats on the newly updated page on designerhighstreet.com.

My outfit features my new tweed boots from Po-zu, they are ethical, eco friendly and also amazingly comfortable and warm, they have been welded to my feet over the past few days. The dress is from Wholly Cow a year or two ago and cable knit tights from Dorothy Perkins.

Style Eyes Weekly Fashion Round Up

I have been feeling pretty Sh*t this week. I have the mother of all colds and apart from feeling bad with that I have had to miss 2 exercises classes which I really look forward to all week. I have been stuffing my face with vitamin c laden fruits in the hope that the cold will go away soon but so far no luck. I was suitably cheered up today though by not 1, not 2  but 3 parcels. I try not to buy too much stuff but I have had to relax this rule a little this month as I felt I did actually need a few things. More on what I got soon!

Despite not being well I have still managed to get through quite a bit of blogging. The highlight of my week has been the announcement of the Royal Wedding, I am so excited about seeing the dress and even better we get an extra bank holiday (although as I work for myself not sure why I am bothered). I have written a few posts on the subject including what fashion inspiration from the royal wedding for spring summer 2011 and a look at what Princess Kate might choose for the royal wedding dress.Is any one else planning their Royal Wedding party yet?

Also this week, I have written a post for Style Sampleon how Social Media is making fashion more accessible. Along the same lines of this post I have just spotted  another really interesting post on “curated” shops–a group of items selected according to a distinct style and point of view. It tells you how you can 'curate' your own collection. I love this idea, although not sure anyone would buy it if I did!

With all the hype and talk of the H & M and Lanvin collection, I haven't even had a chance to check it out yet. I have almost finished my Christmas shopping though which kind of feels more important to me at the moment. What did everyone think, is it worth dragging myself out in the cold and frosty weather to check it out?

The above outfit picture from last week is (I think) the first featuring my new coat which I eventually made up my mind on. It is a sort of duffle coat style by Maison Scotch made from a cashmere mix. I am really pleased with it. I decided that this year I wanted to invest in a nice coat that will hopfully last. I love the simple shape of this coat, the fact that it is not synthetic and the lovely details on it like the little metal button in the shape of a dandelion on one sleeve and a great lining with a star pattern on it.

I actually choose this Maison Scotch Duffle coat as one of my picks on the Shopping Forecast and you can see some of the details on the pictures on there (and if you like vote for it for the chance to win £200 of clothes). I am a big fan of duffle coats and have also just set up a new page on my website with my favourite duffle coats for the winter.

Style Eyes Weekly Fashion Round Up

I am warning you now, this is going to be rather a lengthy round up post. There seems to be so much that I wanted to say and have forgotton to say in the last few weeks so here it is.

You might have noticed (but most likely didn't) that I have added an Eco and Ethical Fashion Guide to the menu at the top of the blog. This is something that I have been wanting to do for some time and I thought it would be a good way to keep track of who sells what and share that with others who might be interested. It is very much a work in progress and I hope to add to it all the time making it bigger and better. My eventual hope is that it will eventually contain enough choice that I (and others) can buy anything and everything I need in terms of fashion and clothes from these retailers.

Outfits and Weekly Round Up

I am behind on posting some of my outfits over the last week (story of my life at the moment!) so I though I would combine them all in one long post included with my weekly round up.

Following on with my scarf obsession, I needed something to brighten up this very neutral outfit.

This outfit is a bit of an unusual colour combination for winter. The skirt is a actually a summer skirt but I wore it with my favourite new cable knit tights. The shirt is too long so I have tied it in a knot.  The bag kind of makes it look a bit out of shape but an across the body bag is the only practical option for me when out and about with children.

If you live in London or fancy a weekend trip there, there is a great vintage fair running on 14th November in Primrose Hill. This is a great chance to stock up on some unique Christmas presents or get yourself a coat which could include some of the seasons key trends like the camel coat or cape. There are some complimentary tickets up for grabs on the website which you can apply for by visiting Vintage Fashion Fair London.

If you have ever owned a pair of Ugg boots you will probably find them so warm and comfy that you don't want to take them off. Whilst I love being warm and my footwear has to be practical, I am not really a fan of Ugg boots perhaps because you just see so many people wearing them. The latest item on my winter wish list is a really stylish, warm and eco friendly boot from Po-zu.com. There is a whole range of styles but my favourites are the tweed ones which I think would look great with my beloved cable knit tights.

I have been really busy this week writing about xmas party dresses, have you started thinking about Christmas yet?

Another busy week at Style Eyes towers. Here is an outfit which I never got round to posting. The top cost next to nothing from a charity shop but I wear it loads because I love the colour so much. I hardly ever wear jeans these days but thought I would wear them as it was so cold.

Weekly Fashion Round Up

This week there seems to be so much fashionable stuff going on. Here are just a few of the highlights for me.

I was really disappointed not to be able to attend IFB Evolving Influence Conference (it is just too far). I am hoping that one day, there may be one in London. For those like me who couldn't attend, there is some great coverage on the IFB website. I have also read a great post on For Those About To Shop which has a great summary of the coverage in the post How to get followers to your fashion blog .

Other exciting stuff this week was the launch of a great new website called Young British Designers. The name says it all really, the site sell designs by some of the more well known new designers like Danielle Scutt and Kinder Agguginni, some of the newer and less known up and comings plus quite a few sustainable designers like Minna, Nina Dolciletti and Ada Zandition. Also the launch of the new Biba label for House of Fraser. This collection is pure glamour - I love it, you can see what I had to say about it in my post Biba designer collection launches at House of Fraser.

I have also reviewed some stunning party dresses by Rare Opulence, this week.

Finally I noticed that to celebrate Price Charles Garden Party with a difference People Tree are offering 10% off their gorgeous new autumn winter collection, until midnight Tues (14th Sep) when you enter GPTMD at checkout.

Weekly Fashion Round Up

It has been another busy old week with blog posts galore. The highlight being the opportunity to write my post on 'How to green your fashion blog' on Independent Fashion Bloggers.

Other posts that I have been writing have included A themed wedding dress - I never had a theme for my wedding day but would love to renew my wedding vows with a twenties theme at some point (we have been married 11 years this month). I am also obsessed with animal print dresses and have listed my top ten favourites and am quite excited about the launch of the new Emma Watson collection with People Tree.

I can't wait for next week, which involves the launch of an exciting new website which will involve working with some of my favourite fashion bloggers. There will also be a giveaway with tickets to an exciting event in London. Also Mr Style Eyes is on the hunt for a retro VW camper van ready for festivals for next year. I can't wait, I am planning to kit it out with antique china, floral bunting and lots of other retro goodies.

Other stuff that has caught my eye, is Curve Id from Levis. I have always had trouble finding the perfect fitting pair of jeans and I think this is a great idea. Often my jeans are tighter on the hips and loose on the waist so I think bold curve might be just what I need.

Style Eyes Weekly Fashion Round Up

I am running incredibly late this week with my round up due to severe weekend induced tiredness.

Anyway, I can now announce the winner of the Sarenza competiton for £60 of shoe vouchers is Franca. Congratulations and I hope that she finds a very lovely pair of shoes.

This week there have been some interesting posts by the team at the Fashion Buzz including great reviews of the Urban Renewal collection at Urban Outfitters and Motel Rocks Vintage both of which featured vintage clothes or fabrics reworked into modern clothes. There is also a great post on how to wear the seasons must have accessory, socks. Also lots of talk about camel (the colour not the animal!) in the posts Is camel making a comeback? and is camel the new black?

I have also been working hard on my eco and ethical fashion guide which I hope will contain some of the best eco and ethical fashion and sustainable clothing available online and people find more choice of clothes within their budget. If you know of any great eco, ethical, second hand or vintage retailers that I could add please let me know.

For those that have shown an interest in Vintage at Goodwood, there are lots and lots of pictures on the Vintage at Goodwood Facebook page. I can't wait until next year.

For anyone who is a little strapped for cash but needs a new pair of shoes, we have had quite a few listings on Posh Swaps, including second hand high heel shoes, flat shoes both designer and from the high street. Most are in really good condition and some have been barely worn.

This week I have got a little behind with my outfit posts so am featuring 2 outfits in this round up that I have not had time to post yet. Weekly Fashion Round Up 31/07/10

Despite being on holiday for the first part of this week, it has been incredibly busy not just at Style Eyes towers but in the fashion blogosphere in general. So much exciting stuff going on, I just can't wait to tell you.

First of all plenty of new posts on the Fashion Buzz lately including lots about latest must have items including jumpsuits, animal print dresses, skinny combat trousers and draped dresses.

On designerhighstreet.com I have finally got round to updating the shift dress collection with a great choice from lots of different retailers, please check it out if you are looking for one. Lots more updates on the site are planned over the next week.

British Style Bloggers have just launched a new community where you can do all those things that you do on other social networking sites but with other British Fashion Bloggers. I think this is an amazing resource I have joined up already here. They also have a meet up arranged visit the site for more details.

If you haven't already heard tommorrow is blog sale day organised by Fashion Pearls or Wisdom and starting at 11am. This is a great opportunity to recycle some of your clothes and make some space in your wardrobe as well as get your hands on some amazing clothes at a fraction of their original prices. While I was on holiday, Catwalk Genius announced that they have now achieved the level of fan funding required for the Kate Eary collection to be produced (this is the first ever fan funded collection). I have a have a great interest in this collection as I have funded a very small part of it. Unfortunately I missed the press preview but the collection will be ready in just a few weeks so I will definitely keep you posted.

Weekly Fashion Round Up 24/06/10

Yet another busy week has passed me by and I haven't had the chance to wear half of the outfits that I would like to or write half of the posts that I would like to. Does anyone else feel that there just isn't enough hours in the day? Anyone enough of the moaning, with England getting through to the next round of the world cup, I definitely have something to celebrate and a very good reason to get dressed up.

This week I have spent a lot of time writing and thinking about wedding dresses. Not something that I will ever be wearing again though as I was married over 10 years ago, but I still remember the excitement of my aunt designing and making my dress.

On the Fashion Buzz this week we have had all the news about what is going on in the world of fashion from the new Danni Minogue range to Debenhams banning airbrushing for their ads.

I only accept stuff that I like the look of though and I only right honest reviews or posts on this blog. I also mention to my readers if something has been sent to me buy a company. Would be really interested to hear everyone elses thoughts on this subject.

Weekly Fashion Roundup 7/06

First of all I would like to apologise for the lack of posting over the last few weeks. I have just returned from a week of sun, sea and sand in Cornwall and hope to get back to usual posting now. Also sorry if I haven't stopped by your blog for a while, I hope to visit very soon. I thought I would share just a few of my holiday photos, hopefully they will not bore you too much.

The Fashion Buzz - have been keeping up to date with all of the fashion news including the Bath Spa University Fashion Show which sadly I missed because of holiday, Giles Deacon being appointed at Ungaro and Kate Eary at Catwalk Genius. We have also looked at fun football fashion in the post World Cup fever at Blue Inc.

Posh Swaps - There has been a rush of listings over the last week on Posh Swaps, some of my favourites include a black Miss Sixty dress, a very gorgeous red strapless dress by Kookai and a pretty black top by Oasis.

Yet another busy week and I hope you enjoy reading these posts as much as I have enjoyed writing them. Actually I haven't written all of these posts this week, I have had some help and there are also some great guest posts.

We tell how JC/ DC uses South Park characters in his new fashion collection. Can't wait to see what the leggings are like. We also look at the beautiful dresses at the Costume Institute Met Ball and wish that we could have one. We are loving tie dye for spring and summer but ask what will it be Tie dye - two tone or rainbowtastic? We also give you the news that Osman Yousefzada will exhibit at the V & A's fashion in motion series. We have also found some great examples of the outerwear as underwear trend and finally we chat about ASOS's plans to launch an ethical fashion marketplace.

Online Fashion Marketing

I report on recent calls for tax breaks for the ethical fashion industry - what a great idea! We also have a great post written by Tom Hyde of Ciao UK on driving sales online with user generated content. Lianne Dietrech, Managing Director of Linkshare UK has written a great post on Top Affiliate Tips for Retailers.

There was also an interesting post on Independant Fashion Bloggers about how Chictopia are using Fashion Bloggers pictures. I am pretty sure that they won't use mine but it has made me think twice about using this site.

Style Eyes Weekly Round Up 19/11/09

I am have been a little lax with the weekly roundups over the last week. Same old excuses I am afraid, lots of work (that is a good thing though), organising a clothes swap party and the odd one or two jolly's, which I think I thoroughly deserve. Anyone before I bore everyone to death with my life story, here is this weeks round up.

Posh Swaps - I asked the question, what can you make from a load of old rubbish? and found out the answer was quite a lot actually in the form of lovely accessories. I discovered a great website to make green living mcuh easier in the post Wekangogreen - can you?. I outlined which are the perfect clothes for swapping and finally I checked out Terra Plana - recycled quilt shoes.

Shmotter - as well as having lots of fun making outfits, I wrote about one of my favourite colours in the post Mellow Yellow. I show ways that you can become a bit of an animal with animal prints. It might seem like ages away but Christmas is only just over a month away so I thought it time to post about Party Time - Christmas Dresses. I ask the question what happened to Lily? and check out her new style. Finally I urge readers to join the campaign to save Luella.

Bamboo Baby - As well as the usual talk of organic baby clothes, I review devidoll - a stylish and ethical boutique. I show how you can be stylish, recycle and fight poverty. I talk about the Pandas threatened by climate change and the loss of their bamboo food, but don't worry, bamboo clothing does not affect pandas at all. I also review new ethical/ eco label Urban Buzz for its trendy and sustainable fashion.
